FROG JUMP - Stephen Fincher, conservative Republican candidate for Tennessee's Eighth Congressional District, today released the following statement regarding Senate passage of Wall Street reform legislation Thursday evening:
"This week's Senate vote on Wall Street reform can be added to the laundry list of big government takeovers pushed through Congress by out-of-touch liberals bent on expanding the role of government in our lives. This legislation increases costs and regulation, but completely fails to address a major cause of the 2008 economic meltdown: Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
"Common sense accountability begins with winding down Fannie and Freddie, whose mismanagement continues to risk the long-term viability of the housing market. In Congress, I'll fight to phase out Fannie and Freddie and replace them with a housing finance system where private capital drives the market. We can all agree that safeguards need to be in place to mitigate a future crisis, but this Senate-passed legislation falls far short of meaningful reform."
